Aug.10.2007 Fake Kung Fu Masters arrested
A group of 12 men pretending to be Shaolin Monk Kung Fu Masters (I’m unclear as to if that’s the official job title printed on their business cards) were arrested in China after masquerading as part of a Shaolin Martial Arts troupe.
Chinese border police collared a dozen would-be illegal immigrants masquerading as the famed kung fu monks of Shaolin Temple, state media reported Friday.
The 12 had joined a team of genuine martial arts masters headed to Canada for performances, the Xinhua News Agency said.
Their sole experience with martial arts was a one-day training session at a hotel to teach them the basics of the art of Chinese lion dancing, it said. Xinhua said the group was stopped after border guards’ suspicions were aroused, but gave no details.
Inspectah Deck, Method Man, and the RZA were unavailable for comment.
But seriously, what a grand scheme. One day of training, not even in Martial Arts, and you’re attempting to dupe people into believing you’re a team of grand Kung Fu masters? Ballsy. What wasn’t well-thought out though was that they were imitating the Shaolin Monks while wearing jeans and Affliction t-shirts, hitting on women, and uttering loud racial epithets. It’s all in the details, gentlemen.
