Apr.04.2007 Jackie Chan is no longer my hero
When looking up to a martial arts superstar, prepare to have your heart broken. There are rumors being reported by the AP that Jackie Chan didn’t do all the stunts he claimed he has, according to a stuntman who has pretended to be Chan in the past (or acted, whatever the terminology for a stunt double is).
Stuntman Bruce Law said in his Chinese-language blog that he’s doubled for stars including Chan, Chow Yun-fat, former Bond girl Michelle Yeoh and veteran Hong Kong actor Andy Lau.
He did not say in which movie he doubled for Chan.
The blog entry has sparked Chinese media coverage exploring if Chan isn’t as daring as his reputation suggests.
Law himself has tried to play down his comments, saying in a second blog entry, “Everyone uses stunt doubles. What’s so surprising about it?”
Well, what’s so surprising is that the main difference between Jackie Chan and the Chinese food delivery guy of mine is that Jackie Chan has done his own stunts in movies. My Chinese food guy could also speak poor English and yell at Chris Tucker, but instead, he’s relegated to stuffing me with Sesame Chicken. So think about that, Mr. Truthhider.
The stunts have left him with many injuries. Chan told the AP in an interview in 2005 he usually suffers from pains in his waist, knees and shoulders when he wakes up.
In an interview published on his Web site last year, Chan expressed frustration with safety rules in the U.S. film industry, where he has made movies like “Shanghai Noon,” “The Tuxedo” and “Rush Hour.”
“I know that they want to make sure that I’m safe when I do my stunts, but sometimes they insist that I use protective gear for even simple things, and that is frustrating. It takes so much time,” Chan said in the interview.
Enough of your sweet lies Jackie Chan. I go to Rumble in the Bronx for reality, not some sort of escapism. Your lack of shenanigans has made you the equivalent of Dolph Lundgren to me now.
