Sep.13.2007 Southwest hates Sexy Americans
A week after making poor sexy Hooters waitress Kayla Ebbert cover her ample bosoms up on a Southwest Airlines flight, a second woman is coming forward saying that they told her to hide her femininity too.
Setara Qassim said a flight attendant confronted her during the trip from Tucson, Arizona, to Burbank, California, and asked whether she had a sweater to go over her green halter-style dress.
Qassim, 21, told KNBC-TV in Los Angeles she was forced to wrap a blanket around herself for the rest of the flight. She complained that if Southwest wants passengers to dress a certain way, it should publish a dress code.
Lynda White, who teaches etiquette classes and calls herself “The First Lady of Manners,” said many young people have gotten lax on what to wear and how to act — possibly influenced by Hollywood stars. She recommends “business-casual” outfits for the plane because you might be seated next to a potential employer or business contact.
Another type of discrimination I won’t stand for. Listen, if we can’t even racially profile on planes effectively without people suing and blah blah blahing, why are we allowed to treat our fellow Sexy Americans with such disdain? Does Setara not have a right to fly because she’s wearing a sexy top? Or is it because she’s Muslim? Because I can accept one of those, but not both!
Also shut up Lynda White. Yes, wearing a sensible pants suit while flying might be a fine thing to do if we were in 1960, but this is 2007 and I’m not hitting on a woman sitting next to me dressed like KD Lang. Sorry. It’s just not happening. And I also doubt potential employers are going “I totally respect you because, nubile 22 year-old, because you are wearing a vest.” It’s a cross-country flight, not an interview. And it’s not also like she was wearing a mesh shirt with booty shorts that read “Roadhead” on the back. Let’s cut these girls some slack, damn you.
