Jul.26.2007 This cat will end your life

Oscar, a cat in Rhode Island, has a certain skill for determining when nursing home patients are going to die. He’ll curl up next to them and lay with them and then, hours later, patients at the Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center will die, without fail.

Oscar the cat seems to have an uncanny knack for predicting when nursing home patients are going to die, by curling up next to them during their final hours.

“Many family members take some solace from it. They appreciate the companionship that the cat provides for their dying loved one,” said [David] Dosa, a geriatrician and assistant professor of medicine at Brown University.

Oscar recently received a wall plaque publicly commending his “compassionate hospice care.”

Well, it’s really quite simple. What the healthcare people are seeing as “magic” or “intuition” isn’t that at all. The reality is that Oscar the cat is an Angel of Death, ending the pain of those in the hospital, one my one. When the patients see Oscar coming, there’s a sense of fear, but also a feeling of calm. They know that in a couple of hours, they will see furry little paws grabbing a pillow, slowly squeezing out the seconds of breath in their withered bodies.

Oscar doesn’t even feel a thing. Thanks to Fancy Feast.

Fancy Feast, if you want your cat to love you enough to euthanize you.
