Only a couple people watched the Super Bowl
You would think that with an undefeated team going against the team from the biggest media market that people would care about the Super Bowl. But you’d be wrong! Only 97.5 million people watched! Bet your face is red!
The 97.5 million viewers who saw the New York Giants’ last-minute win over the New England Patriots made it the most-watched Super Bowl ever and second biggest event in American television history.
Only the “MASH” series finale in 1983, with 106 million viewers, was seen by more people, Nielsen Media Research said Monday. Sunday’s game eclipsed the previous Super Bowl record of 94.08 million, set when Dallas defeated Pittsburgh in 1996.
“You might like your equation going in, but you still need some breaks going your way,” said Ed Goren, Fox sports president. The closeness of the game probably added a couple million viewers to the telecast’s average; the audience peaked at 105.7 million viewers between 9:30 and 10 p.m. EST — during the fourth quarter.
Okay maybe that’s marginally impressive. But how about we stop comparing things to MASH. That finale is like 25 years old now. The only other options back then was like something involving Marilu Henner or cocaine. But now you can watch…uh…reality shows. Some of which undoubtedly about Marilu Henner. It’s always about you, isn’t it Marilu Henner?
I’m assuming that this means 300 billion people watched the PUPPY BOWL (aka the greatest thing to ever air on TV). Seriously you guys are pretty lucky there’s no embeddable videos on there or that’s all you’d be reading about for the next month. Puppies rule.
EDITOR’S NOTE: This is what happens when you Google Image Search for “Super Bowl Party”. That dude really loves his wings. Get a room you two!
